Lucky horseshoe brooch

1 in stock

This antique, Edwardian era brooch is crafted of yellow 14k gold in a horseshoe shape and adorned with seed pearls and stunning cornflower blue, natural Ceylon sapphires. The Horseshoe symbol was thought to bring good luck and fortune to those who wear it, as well as ward off evil spirits and hardship. These beliefs made it quite a popular jewelry motif since the Victorian era.

There are fifteen round, full cut sapphires that graduate in size, from about 0.1 cw up to the largest stone weighing in at approximately half a carat. The whole brooch measures approximately 3 total carat weight and weighs 10 grams. There are fourteen seed pearls graduating in size from about 2.5 mm to 3.5 mm. The brooch itself measures approximately 1.5" wide and 1 and 3/8" long at the largest points and the opening of the horseshoe is about 7/8" and closes with an early safety clasp that dates to the 1920's.

In great condition, this brooch is 100% guaranteed to be solid 14k gold and natural sapphires. One of the pearls has been replaced by a professional jeweler with glue. It is very hard to see in person and did not show up on camera. All other stones and pearls are secure in their settings. There is a hallmark logo that is attributed to Jackson, How and Brooks, a Canadian jewelry maker circa 1922. It is a stunning, well-made heirloom quality piece that has sparkled for nearly a century, and will continue to do so for many more years to come.
